anniversary photos

Caleb & I have been planning an epic vacation that includes many fun part. But I wanted to start off by sharing our anniversary photos! Sorry it’s a little out of order timeline wise. But when I found out that we’d be just a couple hours away from Charleston, I knew I had to have our 5 year anniversary photo shoot there! It’s been on my bucket list for quite some time. If you didn’t know I’m obsessed with the South. Kansas girl with a Southern heart! I mean it’s just so gorgeous!! I’ve been dreaming of taking photos in a gorgeous gown & Caleb in a snazzy suit for a couple years now. Charleston seemed like the perfect place for those southern, fairytale-isc photos to happen! Now all I needed was a photographer that I trusted and who had a similar style of bright & natural photos. After doing LOTS of research I found Katie with Catherine Ann Photography! Once I inquired with her I knew she’d be an awesome fit. She has a love for history like Caleb and was just so incredibly helpful. Right away she gave me photo location ideas & hair salons to check out. So after checking out local plantations and finding out they were all booked with weddings.. I was a little worried it wouldn’t turn out how I hoped. But Katie mentioned Botany Bay because she knew how much I wanted a road filled with mossy trees… I’ve learned now that you call it Avenue of the Oak! Even though, it was about an hour drive from Charleston, I’m SO glad we chose to take them there. It was everything I dreamed & more! It was fun starting out in Downtown Charleston because everywhere is picture worthy plus lots of pretty pink buildings! We were going to use the beach at Botany Bay but it turned out it was closed so we improvised and used this marsh/ cemetery area down the road. That’s right, we took photos in a old cemetery and you can’t even tell!

I was so nervous about our photos because I put A LOT of time & money into planning it all. But more than that I was worried I wouldn’t feel pretty. Because this past year I’ve been so self conscience about my weight. I kept putting off photos in hopes that I’d lose weight. Then finally decided it was time to just get over losing weight & learn to love myself!  In the end I felt gorgeous!! The Pink Dot Beauty Bar did an amazing job with my hair & makeup and one of my close friends from Kansas helped me get some extensions because I wanted long soft curls! So if you’re like me and you’ve been putting off photos because you want to “lose weight first” I totally understand. But PLEASE stop waiting.. you never know what could happen and honestly at what point do we feel like we’ve lost enough weight? Remember that you’re beautiful in God’s eyes!!! I know I’ve found myself looking at our photos and the first thing I want to do is say something mean about how I look. But with all my might I try to stop myself and instead focus on the love that I see in my husband’s eyes! Because folks THAT’S WHAT MATTERS!! I will cherish these photos for years to come and I can’t wait to hang them up real big in our house.  (People probably think we are obsessed with ourselves because of all the pictures we have hanging up.)  Katie did an amazing job at making me feel beautiful and capturing the photos just liked I dreamed! Plus I feel like I gained a new friend out of this whole experience!!!
