This past year I challenged myself to watch less TV and read more books! I’ve always loved reading but have struggled these past couple years forcing myself to take time away from editing to read! It’s just so much easier for me watch TV while I edit! However, I’m pretty proud that I ended up reading over 80 books this year!
In true Joee fashion, I went from reading maybe one book every 3 months or so to finishing a book a week ( at least!) You can say that I’ve become a total book nerd this year! My ideal evening is just curling up with a good book! Thankfully, I finally signed for a library card which has helped me save SO much money. Our library didn’t have most of the books on my list but they’re awesome and can interlibrary loan them from other libraries! I’m sure the librarian who deals with all my requests is tired of me but all well! I get SO excited I usually squeal ( & scare my hubs) when I receive her emails saying she has my books in!
To go along with my nerdiness I LOVE reviewing my books on the Goodreads app! If you like to read and aren’t using this app then you’re missing out! I seriously live on it & our library website! It makes me SO happy to read other reviews before checking out a book and then marking it read + writing my own review!
Before you check out my list I have 2 disclaimers! 1. My favorite books at romance…most of which are kind of cheesy! I do try to read thriller/ mysteries, however, none of them made the list! So these are all romance! 🙂 Which leads me to disclaimer #2. Most of these books are New Adult or Adult which means there is cussing & racier content! Just a heads up I’ll put warnings on the specific books that do have more of that!
My 5 Favorite Books for 2017:
I had a heck of a time narrowing down which 5 books out of the 80 I’ve read this year were my favs! However, the last 3 I had no problem deciding on because they’re must reads!
5. Tell Me Three Things by Julie Buxbaum
I may be 27 years old but I still love me a good Young Adult romance! This story was so incredibly sweet! Jessie is a new kid at an intimidating prep school in Los Angeles. But she gets an anonymous email offering to help her navigate her new school! She isn’t sure if she can trust this person but soon learns to rely on their help. As you can assume sweet romance blossoms and I won’t tell you the rest because I don’t wanna give it away!
Here is my Goodreads review:
“Oh this book was so incredibly sweet! I finished it in one sitting! I couldn’t put it down. I lost my mom at 13 and could totally relate to her at times. Even though it was slightly predictable I still 2nd guessed how it’d end but I loved that! I only wish there would have been an epilogue or a little more at the end after she finds out who SN is. But the ending was still sweet! It makes me wanna check out more books by this author!!!”
4. Wish You Were Here by Renee Carlino
“As long as there is love in this word, we will be apart of it.”
*Disclaimer: this story is more of an adult story meaning there is cussing & racier content.*
This story is about a girl named Charlotte who is struggling to find her passion but instead keeps jumping around jobs. She then has a whirlwind night with Adam but the next day he gives her the cold shoulder and of course, she’s hurt! As time goes on she can’t get him out her head ( & heart.) When she eventually finds out why he blew her off it, her heart is forever changed!
Here is my Goodreads review:
“Hold on a minute while I try to get my heart to settle down. Wish You Were Here was just heartbreakingly beautiful! WOW!!!! Not only is it 5 stars but it just got added to my favs. Plus I read it in one sitting because it was too good to put down.
This story had me laughing, crying and swooning. It was so flipping good!!!! Renee never disappoints because her books are always amazing. This one is up there with Swear on this Life as my favs of hers! But really I haven’t read a story by her that I didn’t love which is why she’s one of my favs!
This story turned out better than I could have imagined. To me the stories that make you feel are the BEST ones. And boy did this story do that!! Also, the ending was perfect! I mean I just loved this story so much! If you’re a hopeless romantic read this right NOW!”
3. Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover
This year I discovered my favorite author and that’s Colleen Hoover. All of her stories are ones I just can’t put down… I literally finish them all in one sitting!
Maybe Someday was incredibly sweet and different than most of the books I’ve read! It’s about Sydney who discovers her boyfriend has been hooking up with her roommate ( don’t worry this isn’t a spoiler.) She then finally meets the mysterious musician from the apartment across from her balcony that she would watch from afar! She ends up moving in with him and they begin writing music together! There is so much more to this story but I don’t want to spoil it for you but the biggest twist is what makes this story so special!
Here is my Goodreads review:
“This story pulled at all my heartstrings! I literally didn’t know what to feel but I did know that I LOVE this story! I just love all the characters! I wasn’t 100% sure how it was going to end but I’m so happy with how it did! I’ve read this story twice and every time I fall more in love with it! Also, I highly recommend listening to the songs that she mentions that were created for this story! It just makes the reading experience even more magical! I promise if you love a good romance you won’t be disappointed with this one! It’s so unique too!!”
2. It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover
*Disclaimer: This book contains graphic scenes and very sensitive subject matter.*
You guys I can’t even properly tell you about this story without spoiling it! But let me just say YOU NEED TO READ IT! Oh my goodness! This is my favorite book ever!!!! It’s a love story where you honestly don’t know what to think! It’ll surprise you & break your heart! Then it’ll put it back together and make you wanna high five the main character! However, after this book, you’ll have a major book hangover. I’ve read it twice and can’t wait to reread it again! This & the next book I have listed are the 2 books I always recommend to people to read! It’s honestly a book I think most women should read. But like I mentioned this isn’t for the light-hearted & it does have some inappropriate parts but it’s 100% worth the read!
1. Bright Side by Kim Holden
Alright friends… I hope you’re ready for this one because it’ll change your world! Okay maybe it’s me but I LOVE THIS BOOK! I will say that I have never cried like I did while reading this book. It may not have a very pretty cover but if you can get past that you will love this. But before I give you my full review here’s what it’s about.
Kate’s has had a rough life but through it all, she’s stayed positive and always looked on the bright side! Which is what her best friend Gus calls her! She never really believed in love either! Then she goes off to college and meets Keller the cute guy who works at the coffee shop. They’re each keeping a big secret that is life-changing. That’s all I can say without spoiling it for you… but oh my gosh!
Here is my Goodreads review:
“Wow… where do I begin? I want to give this book like 10 stars!!!!! I was not prepared for this story to physically rip my heart out and make me cry like a baby. The ending was just too freakin’ heartbreaking. My eyes hurt from bawling so hard. like what just happened?! I thought I was reading a cutesy romance but that was so much more. It was such a good story though! But how I feel like I’m going to have the worst book hangover. My heart hurts! But dang this is probably a new fav book. I can’t stop thinking about it. I’m almost obsessive!!! EVERYONE NEEDS TO READ THIS!!!!!!!”
Honorable Mentions: Here are a couple more books that I really enjoyed that I was torn about adding them to my list!
Never Let You Go by Chevy Stevens * This is an adult thriller and it’s SO good! I usually never like a thriller enough to give it 5 stars but this one I couldn’t put down and didn’t see the twists coming! It does have some more graphic scenes & cussing.*
Paper Princess Series by Erin Watt * This whole series is SO good! I love that it felt like a young adult but was a racier like New Adult book. Also, I will say that I think I even liked the 2nd book ( Broken Prince) better which is usually never the case! But it’s told from 2 points of views.*
How To Kill A Rockstar by Tiffanie DeBartolo * I mean with a title like that I was super intrigued. I was SO torn about this one making it on my top 5 because it made me feel SO many emotions. This book we so stinking good… It literally made me feel every emotion! I’m kind of speechless! There was a certain point where I got so mad I almost quit. But I’m SO glad I didn’t because I ended up loving it! Disclaimer: It is an Adult book with racier content.*
Sorry, this post turned out to be so long! I could seriously talk books ALLLLL day! If you’ve read any of these or do read any of these, I would love to hear your thoughts! Just make sure you pay attention to the disclaimer if I gave one because like I said some of these books are a little racier and adult! 🙂 Thanks guys!
In His Love,
